Hollywood wages war on the internet and the internet fights back. Let’s take Hollywood down, we say. But is that really what we want?
Hollywood is doing what humans in power do - whatever they must do to hold onto that power. But they have the power because we gave it to them. We buy into the marketing. We watch the movies. We write and talk and tweet about the TV shows.
There are independent studios, there are government supported arts programs, there are local theatre groups, but still, we watch the movies and TV shows that Hollywood churns out. If we were serious about destroying Hollywood, we would be supporting these groups. And in the process, we’d be opening our eyes to more creative, varied and thought-provoking entertainment.
